It’s not uncommon for us to host charity events. Part of our core values is to be sacrificial. Meaning if the sweat, reps, hard work that go on within our four walls doesn’t leave here to become more then we’re wasting our time.
This past weekend we had several firsts. In our gym and community. What had originally been planned as an Obstacle Course Training Open House (not a first) changed it’s tone a couple weeks prior. An unfortunate first was that three local Colorado Obstacle Course (COR) ladies Kym, Corrina, and Elizabeth. They were excited and on their way to the Arizona Spartan Race were the victims of a tragic drunk driving accident. One took the life of one and left the other with severe injuries.
This broke my heart. To imagine being excited to go to a fun event like an OCR and have it come to a screeching halt. Although not to this severity I can relate. Being the victim of an accident that required major fascial surgery resulting in over 80K in medical bills, and recovery is a whole other world I wouldn’t recommend. So for days it was tugging at me and finally the intentions were shifted. I decided to create another first.
Our charity events most often go out to local non-profits that support our immediate community. This time around I decided to mix things up by changing our OCR Open House to a charity event. The outcome was a total blast and show of support for our fellow OCR warriors and their mounting medical bills.
In true OCR fashion it wasn’t a perfect day. A gorgeous extended forecast turned into cold and wet. Fortunately the rain tapered and we still ventured outside. We had 23 attendees and two hours of fun raising $250.
Our ActivPrayer of inspired action through our signature Spartacus workout was truly dedicated to supporting something beyond ourselves. We pray for Kym and Elle, and Corrina’s family in this new road ahead. One they didn’t choose but we know that through their obstacle conquering mentality and grit they will overcome and allow it to strengthen them in ways we won’t understand.
