HELP, Somebody STOLE Our Weights...
Hey Fit Soldiers,
I'm going to share a true story with you from this past week... Many people men in particular may be able to relate to. Maybe some of you even thought the same thing your first time into Fit Soldiers. It may turn into a little bit of a rant so don't take offense, just enjoy.
As I am closing down shop the other night I hear the door open and a guy walks in. Now at this point I'm ready to get home and have dinner with my beautiful wife so forgive me but I wasn't ready to get a whole sales pitch.
So I say "Hey how are you, I'm Dave."
He responds with a "Hey how much does this place cost?"
I give him the price.
"WHAT, I thought it was free..."
A little confused all is said was "ahhhh ok"
"Well I'm gonna just look around"
This is where text doesn't do justice. Picture a stalky, broad shoulder, lots of muscle, zero flexibility, protracted shoulders waddling around like he's on a mission. Looking totally confused he turns back to me and says.
"HEY, Somebody stole your weights...Where are all your weights."
With a little chuckle inside I tell him. "Weights, You don't NEED any weights."
"Oh yeah you do, I workout down at (what sounds like) Tower Mouse Him down the street. They got 110lb dumbbells of course you need weights."
So I ask him. "How much do you weigh."
"Oh I'm 170"
"Well there ya go, there's your weight"
"Oh I don't know man."
"I tell you what. Give me five minutes of your time and I'll have you crawling out of here."
"Oh I don't know man, I don't know. I got to go talk to my wife, shes in the car."
Boom. He was gone like a phantom.
Ya know it amazes me how much we get stuck in our way. This gentleman's training philosophy was pretty spot on for his glory days back in the 80's. Twenty five years ago he was probably on the cutting edge of fitness. Lift heavy get strong, big, and lean. Great! Imagine if we all still dressed like the ladies above? Maybe we should try it one day!
Now as time passes, research advances, studies are published, all of us age, families grow, goals change. At what point does one stop learning. Thank God for the invention of the wheel, but also be thankful for innovation of the wheel, like adding rubber to it and putting air inside it. That would be a pretty bumpy ride with all the potholes opening up this time of year.
When is fitness going to stop being about how big can I get and more about how healthy am I? I winded at the top of my stairs and more about keeping up with the kids/grandkids. Less about not being able to scratch your back and more about touching your toes.
Lets not stay stuck in our ways. Let's get smarter, fitter, stronger, more flexible, and most of all healthier. Grow with the times. I am daily doing my best to give you the most up to day safest, most efficient, well designed program possible.
So far every "meathead" bodybuilder type person that has gone through a Fit Soldiers workout hasn't gotten through one round with out any major core and form break down. Never mind last a workout.
But maybe that's why they're here!
